Today I had the pleasure of spending a solid 8 hours volunteering with one of my favorite non-profits Portland Animal Welfare doing a Zeuterin clinic. What is that? Glad you asked!
Zeuterin is a new way of neutering male dogs, it is quicker, safer and less expensive than traditional neutering. It is a wonderful alternative for non-profits and shelters because there is very little recoup time and well yes it is less expensive. As it is FDA approved but the lab that makes it is not yet (the gears of government grind slowly) it is not available for profit so you will not find it at your local Vet. In fact they may not have even heard of it yet. But shelters and other non-profits like PAWTeam are making good use of it.
Today at the clinic we were certifying Veterinarians from all over the world that were in Portland OR for a convention. We were able to perform the procedure on 54 dogs! I, as chief Testicle checker had to turn a few away for not having enough or too small, although I was able to squeeze (pun intended) the big guy through.
How did I get such an awesome task? If only I knew, I would know what to do differently next time! Seriously it isn't that bad. As you know dogs like to keep that area clean so well ya...just sayin!
All in all it was a great day, met some really amazing people doing wonderful things for animals in different areas of the world. Thanks PAWteam for the opportunity and thanks to my amazing hubby for being so patient and helpful so I am able to help.
